Dómhnal Ó Bric
Maisitheoir • Illustrator
Is Maisitheoir é Dómhnal Ó Bric a tógadh i nDún Chaoin i gCorca Dhuibhne (Ciarraí Thiar, Éire). Ghnóthaigh sé Dioplóma sa Bheochan in Institiúid Ealaíne, Dearaidh agus Teicneolaíochta Dhún Laoghaire i 2001 ach níl mórán den gceard sin cleachtaithe aige ó shin, foraoir.
Tá tréimhsí caite aige ag obair le físeáin, dearadh agus eagarthóireacht sna hilmheáin ach is é an maisitheoireacht an meán is ansa leis. Bíonn sé ag plé le leabhair, le mapaí agus le cartúin den chuid is mó agus tá an t-ualach acu foilsithe le blianta.
Ciallaíonn sé seo go bhfuil an t-ádh leis bheith ag tarracóireacht ó mhaidin go hoíche ar nós na manaigh fadó nó ar nós na filí sna cillíní dubha dorcha ag cumadh dánta dialmhaire don gcine daonna.
Is le peann luaidhe, dúch agus dobhardhath a dh'oibríonn sé de ghnáth.
Spreag na seana-scéalta, amhráin, logainmeacha, dánta agus rannta áitiúla agus móra é ó bhí sé ina gharsúinín agus má dh'éiríonn leis aon smut den samhlaíocht sin a léiriú agus a roinnt beidh beart éigin déanta.
'Mol agus aor le súil atá saor!' an mana misniúil atá aige, cé nach bhfuil an radharc ach cuíosach aige chun an fhirinne a rá toisc nach bhfuil an t-airgead aige spéaclaí le dealramh a cheannach, mo ghraidhin é an fear bocht, b'fhéidir go bhfuil sé ró-shaor.

Dómhnal Ó Bric is an illustrator from Dún Chaoin in Corca Dhuibhne (otherwise known as The Dingle Peninsula, the most westerly reach of Ireland and Europe). Growing up on the Atlantic edge, with its ever-changing weather and wild untamed nature inspired him from an early age. The sparks of his imagination were blown into a ragged flame by the stormy gales, the smashing waves, the rugged landscape, the little details and the many rich and varied stories, songs, poetry and placenames of Gaelic culture that surrounded him. He merely attempts to translate a smidgeon of that sense in his illustrations.
He wrangled a Diploma in Animation from Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology in 2001 and hasn't really done any animation since.
He has spent time in stop-motion, design and editing in all types of media but illustration is his preferred spaceship to travel in.
He usually works in pencil, ink and watercolour.
Plying his trade mainly through picture books, cartoons and maps he has had his illustrations published in countless Irish language books on nearly every type of subject...and has learned to accept and appreciate his mistakes as part of his style.
