In this great folk tale Cú Chulainn (the hero of Ulster) comes to the magical fort of Cú Raoi Mac Dáire (the great Munster magician and hero) in an attempt to win back his sweetheart Bláthnaid. She sends him a secret sign by pouring milk into a river, which, to this day, is called Fionnghlaise (literally meaning 'the light-green' river). With this signal Cú Chulainn manages to kill Cú Raoi as he sleeps. However, Cú Raoi's harpist, Feircire, in a suicidal act of grief and vengeance, grabs Bláthnaid and jumps off a cliff with her, thus dashing them both on the rocks below. The ruins of the fort Cathair Conraoí still stand high up in the mountains of Sliabh Mis in West Kerry.

Sa scéal seo tagann an laoch Cú Chulainn go Cathair Conraoí ar Shliabh Mis i gCiarraí chun iarracht ar Bhláthnaid a fhuascailt ón laoch Cú Roí Mac Dáire. Tá an cathair féin fós in airde ar an sliabh ansan agus is cinnte gur áit ar leith é.
